At the Forsyth-Cumming Optimist Club, we’re committed to bringing out the best in kids and our community through meaningful programs, student recognition, and hands-on service. Take a look at the incredible work we do year-round:

🗣️ Oratorical Contest

Our longest-running youth program since 1928! We proudly host the largest Oratorical Contest in all of Optimist International, giving students a platform to share powerful speeches and compete for scholarships.

✍️ Essay Contest

As the 3rd most popular Optimist activity worldwide, this contest allows students to reflect, express their ideas, and compete for scholarship opportunities.

🌟 Youth of the Month

Each month, we honor 1 outstanding student who demonstrates strong character and a positive attitude in their schools and communities.

🧑‍⚖️ Respect for Law

We honor and celebrate the dedication of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Cumming Police Department with a special recognition event each year.

 

💫 Rising Students

Created to recognize students who may not receive awards for high GPAs or athletics, but who shine through their good citizenship and by living the Optimist Creed. These are the unsung heroes who deserve the spotlight.

🎄 Mentor Me Christmas Party

In partnership with other local Optimist Clubs, we throw a festive party with games, food, and gifts from Santa for children in the Mentor Me program.

 

🎣 Fishing Derby

Held on the 4th Saturday of September, this event is FREE TO ALL KIDS and takes place at Buford Dam. Over 2,500 trout are stocked for a fun-filled day of fishing, thanks to our many local partners.

⚾ Miracle League Support

We proudly support the Miracle League with donations to help children with disabilities enjoy playing baseball in an inclusive, fun environment.

🏠 Support for Jesse’s House & Bald Ridge Lodge

We provide monthly fruit, snacks, and grants to support the youth at these important community shelters.

🎓 Scholarships

This year, we awarded 12 scholarships to college and technical school students, helping local youth pursue their educational dreams.

💰 Grants Program

We provide financial grants to schools, youth clubs, and county organizations that align with our mission to uplift and empower young people.

💛 Optimist Day Service Projects

On the first Thursday in February, we participate in service projects to celebrate Optimist Day which is a day dedicated to honoring volunteers who make the world brighter through service.
